Insight Series: The Hidden Risks of Trade Finance

Feb 25, 2016

Exiger Managing Director Nigel Coles, along with three top experts, examined the evolving landscape around trade finance and discussed new ways both the public and private sector can reduce its corresponding risks in a conference call (cohosted by Exiger) for RANE's Insight Series on "The Hidden Risks of Trade Finance: Rooting Out Money Laundering, Corruption, Sanctions Violations, and Terrorism Financing". Both the U.S. and European authorities have identified trade-based money laundering (TBML) as a growing threat, whether it’s used to transfer illicit funds, get around sanctions, or finance terrorism. With comparatively little transparency or data around trade finance, the practice of manipulating invoices and misrepresenting prices, quantity, quality, or origin of goods as part of an import/export transaction has proved particularly challenging to stamp out. This document summarizes the discussion and valuable expert perspectives. Click here for more information about Exiger's trade finance advisory services.
