We are: creating new pathways, empowering more innovators, building the future.

Exiger WINs (Women’s Initiative Networks) is thrilled to partner with the Break Through Tech Sprinternship (formerly Winternship) program for the fifth year.

Break Through Tech works at the intersection of academia and industry to propel women and underrepresented communities into computing degrees and tech careers. Through curriculum innovation, career access, and community building, our goal is to achieve gender equality and more equitable tech ecosystems.

At Exiger, we work every day to make the world a safer place to do business. In partnership with this program, we are: creating new pathways, empowering more innovators, and building a more inclusive tech ecosystem from the university to the workplace.

80+ other organizations have hosted ~1000 Sprinterns™ through a 3-week paid tech internship that gives The City University of New York students the resume credential and real-world experience they need to accelerate their careers in tech.

The Opportunity: What is your biggest motivator in participating in the Sprinternship program?

When I applied to this program, I was in the midst of confusion as I was in the process of changing my major. Participating in this program was the missing piece to the puzzle of my future. Additionally, the program renewed my passion for tech. I’m more excited than ever to continue exploring the field!

The Experience: What have you been working on during your time at Exiger? Who have you met and what have you learned?

I analyzed client data like third-party and affiliate counts, risk scores and country data, across 11 clients. This was achieved by using Python, Pandas and Jupyter Notebooks. During my time here, I’ve met amazing speakers from different departments at Exiger. I learned that no matter what background you come from, you can pursue whatever you want.

Looking Ahead: What has inspired you? What excites you moving forward?

Hearing everyone’s story inspired me so much because it’s amazing to hear what motivates them to pursue what I’m currently pursuing. Moving forward, I’m excited to use my Python and Pandas skills in future projects. Likewise, I’m excited to explore the Risk and Financial Crime field.

The Opportunity: What is your biggest motivator in participating in the Sprinternship program?

I applied to the Breakthrough Tech Sprinternship program mainly because I wanted to learn how the latest technologies are being implemented in people’s lives in a professional setting. Technology in general has always been something that I hoped to know more about as a non-computer science major student. Exiger made that possible by creating a safe learning environment that fosters career learning and development.

The Experience: What have you been working on during your time at Exiger? Who have you met and what have you learned?

During my 3 weeks at Exiger, I analyzed Exiger’s clients using Insight 3PM via API by utilizing a Python library called Pandas and Virtual Environment in Jupyter Notebook. This project helped me understand the significance of API in expanding the interactivity between different applications, identifying trends in API users, and becoming more comfortable with coding.

Additionally, I also met many passionate Exiger professionals from different departments and locations. Their presentations taught me a lot about DDIQ, product management, Insight 3PM, supply chain risk management, and more.

Looking Ahead: What has inspired you? What excites you moving forward?

I want to thank all the Exiger professionals, my internship team, and most importantly our supervisor Jillian for making this Sprinternship at Exiger educational, interesting, and fun. Individuals at Exiger inspired me to step out of my comfort zone, be open to new challenges, and express curiosity about people’s roles within risk and compliance, due diligence, and financial crime prevention. I am excited to put the valuable lessons I learned at Exiger into practice in school, as well as my career.

The Opportunity: What is your biggest motivator in participating in the Sprinternship program?

My biggest motivator in participating in this program was broadening my skillset in web development. I believe it says a lot about someone’s character when they take the initiative to learn more than what is expected of them.

The Experience: What have you been working on during your time at Exiger? Who have you met and what have you learned?

The objective for my team and I was to gain knowledge on client tendencies and risk patterns within Exiger using data gathered from Insight 3PM. We used this data to understand who our clients are, the number of accounts they’ve created, risk factors, and marketing trends. We also learned how to utilize the open source data analysis tool known as Pandas, which uses the Python programming language.

Looking Ahead: What has inspired you? What excites you moving forward?

I am inspired by the individuals, items, and ideas I choose to surround myself with. I am motivated by asking myself the question, “what if?”.

Tanmoy Paul

  • I’ve learned during quarantine: That nothing is permanent so we should appreciate what we have

Tanmoy’s Exiger Experience

The Opportunity: What is your biggest motivator in participating in the Sprinternship program?

The Sprinternship program allowed me to meet and interact with professionals from many different career paths. I got the chance to ask them questions that I never could before. It allowed us to have a safe space where they told us about their non-traditional paths and how they got to where they are now. Learning about their personal experiences and struggles has helped me shape my own career path.

The Experience: What have you been working on during your time at Exiger? Who have you met and what have you learned?

During my time at Exiger, I was given access to client account data collected from Exiger’s Insight 3PM platform. From the data, I extracted the times that the clients needed to complete the onboarding process and the average number of tasks they had left to complete based on risk level. I then analyzed the results and provided conclusions based on research to improve the efficiency of the platform. I met people from many different areas of expertise at Exiger during this process and was taught so much about security, compliance and diligence, product management, and more!

Looking Ahead: What has inspired you? What excites you moving forward?

The most inspirational part of my experience at Exiger was definitely the people and their work culture. Everyone I met was so lively and joyful and it showed that Exiger’s employees know how to be professional, but also have fun. From my meetings and interactions, I learned what sort of environment I would like to work in and the type of coworkers I want to work with. I’m very excited to continue my career journey with everything I learned at Exiger.

Yohenny’s Exiger Experience

The Opportunity: What is your biggest motivator in participating in this program?

My biggest motivator in this program was definitely the people. The fact that so many people with different backgrounds and ways of thinking come together to collaborate and create something while enjoying what they do as well is really amazing to me. So I guess would say people have encouraged me to look for passion and enjoyment in whatever decide to do.

The Experience: What have you been working on during your time at Exiger? Who have you met and what have you learned?

I have been working on analyzing datasets alongside my teammates and learning about different data, what it means, and how it can be helpful to the business. I’ve met amazing, kind and passionate professionals here at Exiger who enjoy what they do and offer their support in all aspects of the job. I’ve learned a lot about people’s different roles such as in the cybersecurity team, product management, product development, and many others across business lines. However, one of the biggest things that I’ve learned is to always be open to learn and explore different fields. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you enjoy it.

Looking Ahead: What has inspired you? What excites you moving forward?

The people at Exiger showed what a workplace should be and feel like. Also, how important teamwork really is in the workplace as well as communication. Moving forward, I look to learning more about the tech and the data science field and hope to explore other interesting fields as I learn and grow more both professionally and personally.

We would like to thank our amazing interns for participating in this program! To learn more about Break Through Tech, visit their site here.
