In an interview with Global Investigations Review, Managing Director George “Ren” McEachern speaks to Adam Dobrik about leaving the FBI’s international corruption unit, the challenges that his team faced, and his decision to start an advisory practice at Exiger.
Ren comments on how even the FBI had to understand the value in making FCPA investigations a higher priority and establishing an adequate budget to support them, especially because the agency was initially concerned with terrorism, cyber attacks, and other immediate threats. There is now more awareness and knowledge surrounding international corruption investigations, but companies must remain diligent and not underestimate the extent to which foreign agencies communicate with one another when assessing risk.
